...fun recipes!

 Father's Day Pops

Microwave 1 cup white baking pieces and 2Tbs. canola oil on high for a minute.  Stir and microwave in 10-second intervals until melted.  Place 12 doughnut holes, one at a time, in  mixture, using a lollipop stick to turn until covered.  Skewer each hole and remove, allowing the excess to drip off.  Put the end of the stick into a tall glass as a holder.  chill about one hour.  Use red gel color to add laces.

Strawberry Lemonade

1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups sliced strawberries
1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 9 lemons)
1/4 cup grenadine

Combine sugar and 4 cups water in a medium pan.
Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.  Simmer without stirring for 5 minutes.
Remove from heat; let cool completely.

Pour half of syrup into a blender, add strawberries and blend until smooth.
Strain into a pitcher; discard solids.

Add remaining syrup, lemon juice and grenadine to pitcher and stir to combine.
Serve over ice, garnished with additional strawberries, if desired.

Food I have never heard of .....until today.

Kohlrabhi
(18 calories, 0g fat for 1/2 cup)

A member of the turnip family, this crunchy and slightly woody veggie can be steamed or eaten straight with dips. (Shape)

Purple Beans
(16 calories, 0g fat for 1/2 cup)

Though they'll lose their vivid hue, cook these just like their green cousins or simply wash and munch on them as is. (Shape)

Sunchokes
(57 calories, 0g fat for 1/2 cup)

Also called a Jerusalem artichoke, this potato-like root vegetable  is good roasted or sliced raw and tossed into salads. (Shape)
